Sober Retreat or Sober Holiday
I believe that the Sober Retreat, The Sober Break and the concept of a quality Holiday for Recovering Addicts has been missing from the world of recovery for far too long, so we have now developed the finest Sober Retreats and Sober Holidays in what is, in my opinion, the finest all-round rehab and recovery destination in the world! People who are in early recovery need support around them but they also need to move on and experience life as a clean and sober person. Ever since I found my own personal recovery here in Cape Town nearly four years ago, I have been hugely excited about launching this particular 'CapeRecovery Experience'. It is my strong belief that true and authentic recovery from any addiction, process addiction, dual-diagnosis issue or eating disorder comes from the heart. It is based on a true and honest desire to get and stay sober, the correct support and structures and it is always a personal journey that is different for everyone. I feel that I have been fortunate as I relocated to Cape Town to get and to eventually stay clean and sober after a 25 year crippling alcohol and drug addiction. Although it wasn't at all straight forward at the start, I surrounded myself with the right kind of people, those in recovery themselves and who supported and actually cared about me. I cut the rest out, the negative influences in our lives that everyone inevitably meets along the way. I can honestly say that if I'd returned to the UK and gone back to my old place and way of living, I almost certainly wouldn’t be around today celebrating nearly four years of recovery from this damaging and crippling disease. Humans helping humans is and always will remain the CapeRecovery way and to me it is the real and effective way to maintain and enjoy a clean and sober life. It gives you some personal sense of meaning and your life purpose after what was often decades of exile from everything and anything that mattered. This is the reason for CapeRecovery's method of organising and arranging every individuals recovery around the people amongst which they are going to be spending their time, positive influences and those people who motivate us to keep moving forward even during the difficult times.

Sober Retreat or Holiday – for people who have already done detox and rehab back home.
(1 month – 6 months)
So, why would someone take a sober holiday? Well, for a break where they are safe in the knowledge that they will be surrounded by people who understand addiction and staying sober, a chance to relax in a recovery hub with a recovery community, a diverse mix of people from all walks of life. Maybe for a refresher or a boost to their recovery when real life starts to get in the way. One of my biggest fears as a newly clean and sober person was how would I ever have any fun again? With all the social anxiety and self-esteem issues, those that stem from our long held core-beliefs, things that inevitably come alongside addiction, how do I form true and authentic friendships again and how do I repair and improve those that mean so much to me? The answer for me was surprisingly simple, I chose to surround myself with the right people and just keep on doing what’s right, maintaining sobriety and fixing as much as possible all the damage of the past. Those old friends and family will not go away and I eventually found out that all they ever wanted is for me to be happy, the rest, the negative people, simply don’t matter anymore. New friends start to become a lot easier to find because friendships are authentic, formed on good and honest reasons and not because of what the person or people can do for you or vice-versa. We instinctively begin to do good things for other people, not for any reward but because we want to!
