Family Help and Family Treatment for a Family Addiction
Too often in my opinion, when addressing addiction treatment, the issue of family support is unfortunately forgotten about or at least not given enough attention. Whilst all the focus of everybody's efforts is strictly on helping the addict deal with their crisis, the loved ones, the families and friends of addicts are left behind to deal with all the damage that is left behind when the addict is admitted into a treatment facility. Family help during this time is one of the most important, yet regularly neglected, parts of treating an addiction in a holistic manner. It really is a family disease or a family addiction, as it affects absolutely everyone who is related to and close to the addict. At CapeRecovery, we make it our priority never to forget about the families and partners of our clients and others who are directly affected by the individuals addiction and their behaviours. When we are treating the addict we always consider family treatment as well. What support do they require? Is there anything that we can do to make the whole process less stressful for them? The feeling that the addict is getting all this care and attention, when their behaviour has been so awful, can lead to growing resentments even when you as a close family member or a friend genuinely care and are desperate to help. This situation is completely understandable and it is a very common reaction from partners and families once the addict is safely in treatment and the drama of their addiction is gone. The most important thing to remember, and something that the addict will come to realise but only in their own time, is that an addict is accountable for all the things that they’ve said and done and will attempt to make amends in time but during active addiction they were often only acting that way because they were not well, so it is vitally important to try as hard as possible not to take it personally. During the process of rehabilitation and recovery, you as family members, will be given the opportunity to express just how you feel and how you’ve been affected by the addiction, all in a controlled and safely managed environment. All our centres tackle the issue of family support very seriously and see it as an integral part of an addicts individual, and indeed of a families, overall recovery. At CapeRecovery we offer full support to all our family members and close friends of the addict, away from the patient, so you always have an independent, listening ear whenever you need it, whilst your loved one is in treatment getting the help that they need.
The CapeRecovery Experience and Volunteering Opportunities
If you are searching for the peace of mind and the perfect rehab and recovery package for your family member, providing them with the best possible chance at a full and long recovery, then here at CapeRecovery we offer full three month and six month packages at the lowest possible local prices, often a tenth of the price of an overseas private rehab. The packages we put together cater for every addiction, process addiction, dual-diagnosis issue and eating disorder problem and include everything from Primary Rehab, Secondary Rehab and Tertiary Rehab to Extended Care Rehab and Sober Living. All this comes along with activities and incredible volunteering opportunities in order for our clients to get the most possible out of early recovery, before they return back home. We tailor each and every package to the individual clients requirements. It is fully unique to us and it comes from our knowledge and experience that the re-integration period when treating addiction is the single most important stage of the entire recovery process. Get that right with the appropriate support and the relapse rate and numbers of returning visitors can be vastly reduced.

When someone has completed their Rehab Treatment for whatever the addiction, process addiction, eating disorder or dual-diagnosis problem, then they can begin to get out and do new things. An integral, and I believe the most exciting part, of recovery is what the person does after the initial treatment period and that is why we include options for safari trips, activities such as yoga, surfing, guided walks around Cape Town and social events with the incredible recovery community here. Another thing that we do is encourage all our clients, particularly those from overseas, to get involved with our many local volunteering opportunities and charity initiatives. This is of course, vitally important in a country like South Africa but also, there is always so much to be gained in recovery through helping others and it is this principle that makes volunteering with our amazing charitable partner organisation as a part of the full CapeRecovery Experience, work so perfectly. |
